Always look for tools other people left behind. Also any weird switches or interior trim that looks like it can break

I like cutting the seatbelts to hear them get shot back into the car and wrap up a few times. Simple amusements

Nice! Forgot about that.
I got a free butane lighter and some trim pieces last time I was there. When I showed front desk they were like “just take ‘em... they’re on us.”

What wreckers do you use? Kenney U pulls implemented a cover fee. And the GM section is really sucking there these days.
Check it out

I can’t understand the things people leave behind. The lady we bought our house from left tons of documents behind.

Yes! Kenny U-Pull is my first stop. Fee is only $2 here so if I nab even a couple of small pieces (trim clips, plugs) it’s not a loss.
The other one is going to be G&L on the other side of town where I’ve scored a bunch of stuff. No cover there but slimmer pickings for my car.

I find this really sad and said as much here: http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/of-floor-mats-…
I didn’t take photos of the rest of what I found but some of it, if you let your head run with it, is kind of heartbreaking. There was a police report of what was presumably the accident that sent the car to the wrecker, and a statement of claim for medical assistance from the government, perhaps also due to the car accident. The cars were like snapshots taken at low points in some peoples’ lives. I dunno. Maybe the overcast day or the mud surrounding the cars contributed to the feel but it seemed really bleak.
It’s like the (former) owner just gave up. No hope left, why bother, ya’ know?

They didn’t use to have a fee at Kenney’s, but man that place has gone down hill. I personally recommend standard auto wreckers at 5402 old richmond road. No fees!
I have never been to G & L where is that?

G&L is on Navan Road, about 10 minutes past Orleans. Great yard, depending on what you’re looking for. I posted on it here:

Thanks for the recommendation. See, I knew this post would come in handy. I’m off to Standard’ now!

I've mentioned it before but I used to work part time at a repo company. So many dudes hide their porn in their car. Check in the spare tire well.

Generally the interiors of the places around me are trashed. Floor mats are more like mildew farms.

Yeah, my dad used to tow junk cars from people’s yards and store them until he had enough to make it worthwhile have someone come pay him to take them all away. I crawled through many cars in my youth. They’re all pretty sad but sometimes you get some bitchin’ new sunglasses.

Is this a thing? Would people buy car interiors turned into furniture? I’d 10/10 etsy

I totally did this today! I now have a complete set of spares for my specific car. They’re ridiculously overpriced at Canadian Tire or PartSource (our equivalent of AutoZone/Pep Boys/ProHardware) but they handed them to me, along with a whack of other stuff, for under $5. I’m going to make another post with photos. It’s not an exciting haul but it was useful.

*nods*
It’s a mixed bag around here. I’d give it a 50% chance that a car will be waterlogged, based on my recent picks. A lot of the spare tire wells are ponds; sad they didn’t pull the drain plugs before putting the car up on cinder blocks.
The other half though have a lot of good stuff still in them; if I ever crack my dash fascia or a piece of plastic trim, I know exactly which yards to go to now. (there are about half a dozen of my model of car in each of the yards)

Heh. I’m pretty honest. I usually dump the chance on the front desk. (and they usually hand it back to me)
I saw some very random cars today. I’ll be making another post tonight or tomorrow morning with photos.
